A permeable paver system with open-graded aggregate was installed in this residential driveway.   Open-graded aggregate uses layers of aggregate for structural loading as well as stormwater infiltration.  The existing driveway was removed and material below the concrete was removed.

The sub base was compacted and a layer of 1 1/2 " aggregate was added to serve as the bottom layer in this system.  Four inches of 3/4" aggregate is the base and the pavers are set on a 2" thick setting bed.  The setting bed is #8 size aggregate.  Permeable pavers offer the greatest cost benefit on high density residential and commercial property because detention capacity is provided in the pavers and a separate detention structure can be reduced to increase site value.  Also, permeable pavers are eligible for up to 14 LEED points.
