Michelle has an extensive background in stormwater management and low impact development from her previous career as the stormwater coordinator for Jefferson County. She is specifically interested in the ability of permeable paver systems to provide functional hardscape for the built environment without generating excess runoff. This technology will greatly benefit communities in meeting stringent stormwater control requirements.

In October of 2007, Michelle had the opportunity to attend a paver installation school where techniques for installing permeable paver systems were covered in a hands on environment. This was the inspiration for the article which she entitled, "What I Learned in Paver School: The Role of Permeable Paver Systems as a Stormwater Management Technique".
